This race marked another new era in our sport. 2009 saw the beginning of the World Championship Series. Prior to this, we competed in World Cups with a one day final to determine the World Champion and the World Number One.
This sport was growing immensely in popularity and a new format was devised like motor car racing that meant a World Champion was determined from the culmination of your best races through out the series. I was in no means good shape for this race, a lot had changed since Beijing, but none the less I somehow had this desire to put my name in the record books for this new chapter we were starting in the sport.
I wished I got to keep that glass trophy I was holding, though unfortunately I didn’t get to keep it for the rest of the year. What goes up, must come down and this was probably the beginning for me.
